Some of our readers may first of all be wondering where was the 1st Muslim Unity Convention held? The answer is that it was held on Sunday 7th August 2005 in Manchester, England.  During the event an organisation called the Ramadhan Foundation was launched and took the initiative and leadership of uniting Muslims in Europe on one platform.

It was established to bring the educational and welfare needs of the Muslim community to the forefront of the community’s thoughts. They aspire to put in place the structures and institutions to prepare future generations with the necessary skills and knowledge to take on the challenges of this new era.  They also took on the initiative from the convention to put straight the global perception of the Islamic world.

When the founding members of the Ramadhan Foundation met with YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad a couple of years ago in Malaysia during an event that he was hosting, they felt that bringing the 2nd Muslim Unity Convention to Malaysia, where it is known for its harmony between the different peoples of the country, was an obvious next step. They also value highly Tun Dr Mahathir’s leadership skills during his time as Prime Minister of Malaysia.

So now together with the Perdana Leadership Foundation and My Events, the Ramadhan Foundation is bringing together Islamic scholars from all around the world onto the same stage, for the first time, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event will be held from the 15-16 December 2009 at PWTC, Kuala Lumpur.

The conference includes keynote addresses by YABng Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia and HE Al Sayed Ali Al Hashmi: Special Advisor to HH President of UAE. And renowned speakers like HE Dr Shaykh Abdullah bin Bayyah: former Minister of Justice Mauritania; Habib Ali Jifri: Founder & Director of Tabah Foundation, UAE;  Muhammad Umar: Chairman Ramadhan Foundation and HE Shaykh Dr Mohammed Saeed Ramadan Al Boufi: Islamic scholar and author. There will also be session on Islam and the Media which will include Dr Robert Farook Dickson Crane: Former Advisor to President Richard Nixon, USA and Mr Afzal Abdul Rahim: CEO of TIME dot.com Berhad.

The convention will be ended by a Gala Award Dinner highlighting the presentation of awards from Ramadhan Foundation to 8 international philanthropists for their extensive contribution to the Islamic world and Muslim Unity.

Close to 600 people have already registered for this event from 20 countries around the world, and I am sure the number will be rising daily now the time is coming near.
